Bucket List Wednesdays – Freelancers on the Road’s Bucket List

Welcome to this week’s Bucket List Wednesday – a feature where I ask a fellow travellers about their Bucket List. If you would like to take part please get in touch – samantha@thewanderingwanderluster.com or @A_wanderluster – I would love to for you to get involved!

This weeks travellers are Irene and Stefano from Freelancers On The Road. Irene is Austrian and Stefano is Italian and they met in Croatia! In 2009 they began travelling around the world for 6 months. Afterwards, they decided to find a way to work location independently and founded their little translation agency and they have never looked back!

So Irene, Stefano how many things do you have on your Bucket Lists?

Ironically, the more we travel the longer our bucket list gets – and reading other travel blogs certainly does not help to keep the list short! Our most exciting bucket list items currently are:

  • Visit Greenland
  • Visit the Galapagos Islands
  • See the Aurora Borealis
  • Snorkel with whale sharks
  • See Machu Picchu and hike the Inca Trail
  • See the Terracotta Army in Xi’an
  • Experience orangutans and gorillas in the wild

I have seen the Aurora Borealis although it was so beautiful I would love to see it again! What is on the top of your list?

Currently, it is traveling to Peru and visiting Machu Picchu. We do not have specific plans yet as we always have to consider our freelance work, but it is definitely going to happen.

They have already ticked Cooking Classes in Thailand off their list!

What made you choose Machu Picchu as your top place to visit?

We have never been to South America – that definitely has to change! Also, we have both been learning Spanish (practicing it in Mexico and Spain this year) and would love to improve our skills. Many travelers have told us that Machu Picchu is a breathtaking site, so we can’t wait to experience it ourselves.

Thats great that you are already learning Spanish. Its a great language that can be utilized in so many countries. Any other languages you would like to learn?

Of course! We already speak German, Italian, English and French, however we would love to perfect our Spanish. Irene also thinks that Icelandic is a beautiful language.

Beautiful? Hard maybe! 🙂 Is there a specific person you would like to meet or group of people?

We would love to have lunch with a bunch of travel bloggers and digital nomads to get inspired and share experiences and ideas. And of course, Pippi Longstocking and C3PO! How much fun would that be?

Pippi Longstocking brings back such childhood memories! What things have you seen other people do or accomplish and you thought, “Wow, that’s pretty cool! I’d love to do that!”?

We are inspired by people who are self-employed and make a living while traveling or living the life they want – we think that’s pretty cool! Being self-employed ourselves we know the challenges. It is good to know that there are many, many successful examples out there.

And finally how many things have you achieved so far off your Bucket List?

We were lucky enough to tick off many bucket list items over the years! We went whale watching in Iceland, drove a camper van up the Australian east coast, learned how to cook Thai curry, gave elephants a bath, house sitted, visited Angkor Wat, patted a kangaroo, went scuba diving, snorkeled with sea turtles and manta rays… this list could go on forever. We are very fortunate to have ticked off more than half of our bucket list items. Fortunately the list keeps growing, so there are always new plans to make.

Those sound like great experiences! Wish I had seen whales in Iceland but it just means we will have to go back!

What a great interview – thanks so much for having us!! 🙂

PS: Going back to Iceland is always a good idea! For us, Husavik was the best place for whale watching. We saw humpback and minke whales on 4 consecutive days there – none in Reykjavik though.

Thank you for taking part! 🙂 I would love to return to Iceland – although my ideal dream would be to cycle around it! Whale watching sounds amazing! I’d definitely go back for that!
