Staying in a musty hostel and sharing a room with six strangers might be cheap, but why skimp when you don’t have to? Booking last minute often means that you can stay in 5* accommodation without breaking the bank. With over half the year passed already, we asked my previous employer, First Choice to tell us about five of their best locations containing hotels with late deals this year. So if you have plenty of holiday days left, take a look at some fantastic destinations and start planning or dreaming about your next luxury break
Melia Dunas Resort – Sal, Cape Verde
Melia Dunas Resort has an enviable location, set within metres of a private beach and only 25 minutes’ drive from Esparagos, the island’s capital. Whether you’d like to try a yoga class on the beach, take up windsurfing or simply work on your tan, a stay on beautiful Sal island has all of this and more.
You can enjoy an all-inclusive package at Melia Dunas, which includes delicious meals at four on-site restaurants and cocktails in the glorious sunshine at the resort’s very own beach bar. I mean would wouldn’t want to sit and look at that view all day?
Liberty Hotels Lara Beach – Lara Beach, Turkey
Lara Beach’s sandy shores and crystal waters have been popular with tourists for many years, and the opportunity to stay on the beachfront at Liberty Hotels Lara Beach shouldn’t be missed. With unparalleled views through floor-to-ceiling windows and access to one of Turkey’s best beaches, as well as easy transport links to the centre of Antalya, Lara Beach makes the perfect base for a holiday in Turkey.
The hotel itself has evening entertainment including live shows, karaoke and quizzes, plus lots of daytime activities like tennis, canoeing and fitness classes. Prefer to just chill? The spa is the place for you with popular massage, skincare and beauty treatments on offer.
Barcelo Royal Beach – Sunny Beach, Bulgaria
As well as a star shaped pool, this hotel has its own shopping centre to keep travellers entertained. A classic day here might involve shopping until you drop, before taking yourself to the spa for some extreme relaxation in one of two saunas. Round things off by cooling down in the pool and, if you’re starting to feel hungry, treat yourself to some barbecued food at the poolside.
Sunny Beach is Bulgaria’s most popular holiday destination and, with its wealth of luxury hotels like Barcelo Royal Beach, it’s not hard to see why.
Riu Guanacaste – Playa de Matapalo, Costa Rica
If it’s relaxation you’re after, Playa de Matapalo is the place to be. The beach is frequented mostly by guests at Riu Guanacaste, so you’ll have these gorgeous sands pretty much to yourself.
Spend your days sunbathing and your evenings making the most of free, complimentary entry to the nearby nightclub and casino, where you can try your luck on the tables. The hotel also has the welcome addition of a swim-up bar area and whirlpool bath, meaning you can thoroughly spoil yourself.
Hotel Tabaiba Princess – Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Spain
Maspalomas is home to some of the top hotels in Gran Canaria, and Hotel Tabaiba Princess is up there with the best of them. The hotel’s two gigantic pools are a particular favourite with visitors, and they have a total of five bars between them!
Nearby is Europe’s only permanent open-air cinema, so be sure to snuggle up on a sofa with the latest blockbuster when you visit. Enjoying a warm climate year-round, you needn’t worry about getting rained on. However, the cinema does provide blankets for chillier nights!
That’s just a handful of the choices available. Start working on your shortlist now and you might be able to squeeze in a late summer or early autumn break!
