Located on the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre is a destination that has been luring in visitors from around the globe for years. Its colorful and picturesque hillside fishing villages and UNESCO World Heritage Status have made Cinque Terre National Park one of the most desired places to visit in all of Italy. In June I finally visited this beautiful region of Italy and I found the perfect peaceful haven to stay that made my stay in the Cinque Terre region most enjoyable and relaxing.
La Francesca Eco Resort
Situated in Bonassola, just a few kilometers from the fabulous Cinque Terre National Park, the secret nature paradise of La Francesca awaits you. Nestled amongst pine trees, this mountainside resort is ideal for those looking to get closer to nature and stay in an Eco-friendly accommodation. This is a place without noise, where wild flowers and plants grow and where the sea breeze and the smell of pine wakes you up in the morning.
History Of La Francesca
La Francesca owes much of its beauty and success to the current owners mother, who purchased the land through her love of writing. Immediately falling in love with the spot, Gloria purchased the land in 1961 with a view of turning it into a rose garden. However due to some problems with road access the idea was scrapped and instead she decided to turn the land into an Eco-friendly resort where nature lovers and writers could retreat to and enjoy the same views and atmosphere that she her self fell so deeply in love with. The logo of La Francesca represent the historical rose garden and it remains its icon and brand today.
La Francesca offers a range of simple but comfortable accommodation options including bungalows and apartments. The most favorable in my opinion are the cottages which boast plenty of space for a small family or two couples travelling together and a wonderful balcony that faces the sea. While the amenities are basic, we had everything we needed for our short two day stay at La Francesca with cooking equipment provided as well as towels and bedding.
Its myriad of simple bungalows are spread around its hillside resort that feels very much like a small village. You’ll find a small market, a bar and a restaurant that serves delicious local dishes at the foot of the hill with views out to the sea from its outdoor terrace.
Being an Eco-resort, La Francesca’s leisure facilities have been built into its rough, rugged, free and wild landscapes with minimal impact to the nature that surrounds it . Its cool and refreshing swimming pool is a blissful retreat from the sun during the summer, providing a peaceful spot on top of the hill with views out over the ocean and a convenient bar for soda drinks and refreshments. In addition the resort also has 2 tennis courts, football and volley-ball fields, bowling, minigolf and table tennis to keep all members of the family amused.
La Francesca continues to promote the various trekking routes that have made Cinque Terre so popular with walkers and hikers. Walk slowly and take in the stunning Ligurian landscapes on one of the popular walking trails or ask reception for a map of some of the off the beaten path routes that range in distance and difficulty.
